We are:

News UK is a company full of talented, dedicated and creative people. We are an ambitious and ever-growing organisation with a passion for storytelling, capturing moments, meaning and magic to make sense of the world.

Our newspapers reach more than 30 million people each week and include The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. News UK is also home to Unruly, a global ad tech company, and Wireless, a leading UK and Irish media company boasting independent local and national radio stations.

Your role:

We're looking for an SEO analyst to work in our fast-paced newsroom and provide support to the SEO team, journalists and editors - from day to day guidance to longer term insight to drive more search traffic. You'll need to be able to extract insight from data using various analytics tools (and you'll help decide which we use) and present it in a clear way.

Day to day you will:

  • Monitor and analyse our organic search traffic on a daily and weekly basis, providing insight and making recommendations to inform what our newsroom writes about in order to drive more search traffic.
  • Research events and provide recommendations on how to maximise traffic - from the Oscars to the Six Nations and from TV shows to Brexit Day.
  • Provide more detailed longer-term analysis and insight for the SEO department, individual section heads (such as news and sport editors) and product managers to inform both our editorial strategy and our technical roadmap.
  • Proactive analysis of our SEO traffic to find opportunities we well as issues, making data-led recommendations in a clear and understandable way.
  • You'll be based in the audience department but will need to work closely with the central analytics team.
  • Decide what tools we should use to maximise our understanding of our traffic.

What we're looking for from you:

  • A good technical understanding of SEO is essential, and you should understand the difference between SEO for news topics and other types of SEO and the implications for analysing data.
  • Experience with web and SEO analytics tools is essential. We currently use a combination of Google Analytics and various other tools.
  • You'll need to be able to juggle working in a fast-based news environment with running longer-term projects.
  • Experience with a data visualisation tool such as Tableau and Google Data studio would be beneficial
  • A good understanding of the role of analytics within the media sector
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, with the ability to translate data effectively for people not used to dealing with it.
  • Proven track record of delivering and presenting actionable insights and analysis to stakeholders
  • High levels of logical thinking and problem solving skills, ability to draw meaningful conclusions from disparate and incomplete sources
  • Able to understand complex business questions and to be able to frame the right analytical questions
