Rhizome Media is looking to hire a Senior Account Executive/Account Manager with at least two years of experience in PR, either at an agency or in-house, or two years’ experience as a journalist.

Why the hell would I want to work for you?

Based in an improbably hip WeWork office at the heart of redeveloped Paddington, Rhizome Media is a fast-growing company that prides itself in delivering excellent media coverage for businesses of all sizes in all sectors.

Our offices boast a meditation room and table tennis - but you’ll be having so much fun doing PR you won’t care. Though you may be interested to know we offer an annual £500 personal development fund, whizz staff away on a yearly work holiday somewhere hot - this year it’s Faro, Portugal - and provide 25 days of annual leave, as well as half a day off on your birthday. Oh and one day a year you can play your ‘joker card’ when you’re too hungover to function.

Who are you?

You’ll be a PR or journalist with at least a couple of years’ experience under your belt.

Importantly you’ll be a self-starter, equally as comfortable chatting to clients as you are getting your hands dirty by digging through a stack of data to find a story.

You’ll have good writing skills and be keen to tackle any number of different topics - from the finer points of the latest smartphones launch to mortgage loans.

Finally you’ll need to be confident and articulate, be comfortable dealing with company bosses, possess a sound grasp of current affairs and above all have a nose for a good story.

A dry sense of humour and a willingness to work hard - and laugh - in roughly equal measure won’t do you any harm, either.

The day job

We’re an SME that punches well above its weight - representing everyone from SMEs to listed firms and companies across a huge variety of sectors including financial services, property, insurance, technology, health and motoring.

Our clients include household names like uSwitch, the AA, Indeed and Phil Spencer - yes, the one off the telly - as well as a number of exciting disruptors, like funeral comparison site Beyond and cybersecurity experts Top10VPN.

You will be yearning to get involved in a huge variety of tasks including ideas generation, writing press releases and features, organising and attending journo/client briefings, crunching data and crisis management. We work a bit like a news agency, so it’s a fast-paced and exciting working environment. For the right person, this is a fantastic opportunity to help play a major role in the growth of this firm.

It goes without saying that you will have excellent people skills, be confident and articulate, possess a sound grasp of current affairs and polished writing skills, together with a nose for a good story.

Key day-to-day tasks:

  • Managing/assisting with accounts
  • Writing press releases
  • Writing reactive comments following breaking news
  • Pitching in news stories and features to national, regional and trade media
  • Organising and attending journalist briefings
  • Contributing to new business proposals and pitches
  • Organising radio/TV interviews and briefing clients
  • Speaking to case studies

Skills and experience:

  • Self-starter with bags of initiative
  • Ideas person – both creative and news aware
  • Excellent client handling skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong news sense
  • Team player
  • Multi-tasker
  • Good media contacts a bonus
  • Enthusiastic and intuitive
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to tight deadlines
