Job Details

Editorial Assistant at boutique travel website, i-escape.com

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an editorial assistant to join our creative team in our Bristol head office.

You will be helping to load our award-winning hotel reviews and to keep them meticulously up-to-date, using information and photos provided by the hotel, and incorporating additional feedback from our roving reviewers and staff.

i-escape has won numerous accolades for the detail, honesty and stylish presentation of its handpicked hotels and rentals, which span over 1,500 properties in 50 countries worldwide. We are constantly refreshing and expanding our portfolio, and your role is a critical part of this project.

There will also be the opportunity to work on our travel guides and our blog, and from time to time to stay in some of our stunning properties in person and write your own reviews.

This post is suited to a bright and creative person with a good degree (English, Journalism or other arts degree), a keen interest in travel, a neat way with words, an eye for images, and speedy hands on the keyboard. It will be an advantage to have 2-3 years’ professional writing or subbing experience (print or digital), some photo editing experience, and to have your own blog.

Additionally we expect to see:

  • Superb digital fluency including familiarity with Windows, Word, Photoshop, Google docs, and with content management systems
  • An understanding of both SEO and social media (note, however, that this not a social media job, it is principally a writing/subbing/photo-editing job)
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent concentration
  • Lots of energy and an appetite to learn new skills
  • A logical and detail-oriented brain which can quickly assimilate information and spot inconsistencies
  • A friendly, easy-going manner to fit in with our small Bristol-based editorial team

Starting: April 2019

The role is based in our Bristol (UK) offices and is a full-time position (39 hours/week).

Please apply to the Editor, Jake Hamilton, by completing the application form below before 15 February 2019 supplying:

  • your CV
  • a cover letter, including your current job status and salary
  • a link to your blog and/or examples of your writing
  • a sample review of any hotel, B&B or other accommodation which you have stayed in recently, written in i-escape's house style, to include:
    • - Summary of the place (15-20 words)
      - Overview (150-200 words)
      - Highs (3 bullet points)
      - Lows (3 bullet points)
