An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join one of the biggest FMCG retailers in the world, taking a pivotal role in the frontline of media handling, crisis and issues. 

Please note this role is a maternity cover FTC of around 9 months - there is the potential to extend however you must be available immediately or with a maximum of 1 month notice period.

The Role

This role is to cover the maternity leave of the current Content & Channels Director, starting from February/March 2019 until September 2019.

The main facet of the role is to manage the media/press function at one of the highest levels in the organisation, being the first port of call when it comes to pulling together and managing media responses to business challenges, issues and crisis.

You need to be a savvy, unflappable media operator who is confident in dealing with tricky media across print, broadcast and online.

Ideally you will have started your career as a journalist before moving in house to a major consumer brand or FTSE 100 organisation; or to an agency - and you'll be someone who is used to working with organisations who traditionally get a lot of media focus/attention.

You’ll have a solid network of contacts including news editors, reporters, broadcast/news reporters/producers and be adept at media handling.

There will also be a content creation element to the role (approximately 30%). You will be highly experienced in creating compelling content for media to promote corporate and brand messaging across a range of platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the press office/media function at a senior level, being the first port of call when it comes to pulling together responses regarding issues and crisis
  • Maintaining and building on the brand's crisis handling capabilities
  • Media training/briefing of key executives in preparation for any interviews
  • Development and implementation of reactive and proactive media relations strategy to promote messaging in line with the company's pillars of activity/focus
  • Managing a team and leading by example
  • Leading the strategic ideation and creation of content creation to promote the brand;'s corporate and campaign messages


About You:

  • 18 years plus experience gained in an agency or in house communications role
  • Track record of media handling across national, broadcast and online media
  • Crisis and issues management
  • Leading a high performing team
  • Experience of working in a matrix system ideal
