Yahoo UK is looking for an experienced Head of Video to evolve editorial coverage and drive consumers to Yahoo platforms.

Working across key areas of News, Sport, Finance, Lifestyle and Entertainment, you will have experience telling stories through video in a number of ways - everything from daily clips on social channels, to hero films and longer form digital series.

You will have a creative mind to generate the most original ideas and viewpoint, and a good contacts book to help scale up production around major events, such as the Cricket World Cup or Brexit announcements.

You will be across developments in the market and have an understanding of what the different videos depending on off-network or on-network.

What you will be doing:

  • You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to implement a clear video strategy across all Yahoo UK content.
  • You will help co-ordinate Yahoo UK’s day-to-day coverage and liaise with senior colleagues in News, Sport and Finance.
  • You and your team will work closely with a variety of stakeholders including the in-house studio team.
  • You will be a self-starter, who knows when to be nimble and react to breaking news; when to chase down an exclusive; and when to plan for major events all with the mobile audience front of mind.
  • You will manage a small team of producers, adapting the resource to match the current affairs and sport calendar.
  • You will be comfortable using data analytics platforms to understand Yahoo UK’s audience and interpret that data to inform video strategy and relay that to the wider business.
  • You will seek new ways to tell a story in an engaging and innovative way.
  • You will be willing to promote the brand both internally and externally, and be fluent in English.


A little bit about you:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a track record of success producing video in a fast-paced media environment.
  • Be able to demonstrate creativity and problem solving on a daily basis.
  • Ideally have 6 years’ experience in journalism and digital media, specialising in video.
  • Possess a broad knowledge across News, Sport and Finance.
  • Have experience leading video teams and liaising with multiple stakeholders.
  • Have experience of managing budgets.
  • Challenge conventions and be disruptive to ensure Yahoo content stands out.
  • Be inclusive and collaborative.
  • Have experience commissioning, to deadlines, from a pool of freelance writers and producers.
  • Understand the importance of tone, and adapt video according to content and format.
  • Have excellent communication skills at all levels, and an ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams.
  • BA or BS degree (or higher) preferred - journalism-related, or a demonstrable equivalent in real-world experience.
