Ceramic Review is the internationally leading magazine for ceramics, ceramic art, pottery and craft. Presenting the latest work, news and views on ceramics, it is an invaluable resource for makers, collectors, curators, students, and anyone with a passion for and interest in ceramics.

We are currently seeking a proactive Assistant Editor with a broad range of skills who will work closely and directly with the Editor on all aspects of the busy magazine’s print and digital output.

The role

  • Working within a small, focused team to produce a bi-monthly, internationally renowned specialist title
  • Assisting the Editor in all aspects of the magazine’s production, from concept to publication
  • Taking responsibility for commissioning, researching, collating and writing regular features
  • Proofreading and fact-checking each issue in detail and marking up corrections; inputting amends on InDesign
  • Creating and posting daily content for Ceramic Review’s digital platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), managed via Hootsuite and/or Buffer
  • Uploading regular content to the Wordpress website, including details of each new issue and regular articles
  • Evaluating social media output across platforms using both native insights and Google Analytics 
  • Using Mailchimp to produce the magazine’s monthly e-newsletter
  • Representing Ceramic Review at events, helping to sell subscriptions and meeting industry contacts
  • Acting as the first point of contact with the editorial team; dealing with any requests made by email or telephone 
  • Collating contributor addresses and sending complimentary copies of the magazine to all relevant parties 
  • Providing general administrative support to all aspects of the magazine
  • Maintaining related archives and records

Skills and Qualities


  • A passion for journalism and an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A skilled approach to tailoring content for digital audiences across websites, social media and blogs
  • Adept at using a range of social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
  • Knowledge of tailoring content for target audiences and SEO best practices
  • A self-starting attitude, and ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to work as part of a busy team
  • A high level of computer literacy (including Word, Excel, Gmail, Wordpress)
  • Knowledge of, and strong interest in, the relevant sectors: craft, art, and design
  • Highly organised and an accurate record keeper


  • Some design skills and knowledge of design and photo editing packages
  • An aptitude for and experience in marketing, and specifically arts marketing
  • A knowledge of the ceramics world
