About You

You are an experienced journalist who has the editorial judgement to decide which stories Yahoo.co.uk users need to know about.

You love news - both important and trending - and enjoy being on top of everything from politics and entertainment to sports and finance.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can adeptly handle any breaking news story that develops and work closely with your colleagues to identify the best coverage plan. Your editing skills will be exemplary.

You are approachable, enthusiastic and creative and have an optimistic attitude to your work.

Responsibilities

  • You will take ownership of the Homepage of the site at the weekends. This will involve day-to-day editorial programming and liaising with other Homepage editors to ensure our desktop and mobile experiences match the needs of our users.
  • This will involve selecting stories, writing engaging headlines, editing articles, curating content, programming video and more.
  • Part of this role will also involve writing articles and chasing down stories to drive users to the site
  • The role will have a particular focus on Yahoo.co.uk’s mobile offering on weekdays.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, style, accuracy and presentation to create a best-in-class experience that informs, engages, entertains and inspires our users
  • Closely track real-time metrics and analytics of our content to make data-informed decisions
  • Assist the team in distributing content on non-Yahoo platforms
  • Collaborate with product teams on key initiatives
  • Video is a key priority for Yahoo.co.uk and you will be expected to be engaged in this area


Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Ideally 3-5 years’ of editorial experience; editing content and copy for high-traffic websites
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of professionalism over email and in person
  • Knowledge of Photoshop would be preferable
  • Familiarity and experience with web content management systems
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late nights and holidays when needed
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities with excellent accuracy and attention to detail
