Job Details

The role:

H2O Publishing is searching for the ideal candidate to become Features Editor across a number of its market-leading publications.

As Features Editor, you will plan, write and edit features across seven publications, submitting all copy and images to the editor before the deadlines they set.

As well as this, you will be expected to monitor catering industry activity/news in the following sectors: pubs, bars, hotels, cafés, bakeries, sandwich bars, street food markets, sports venues, leisure and cultural venues, schools, universities, workplace contract caterers, and the general contract catering world. You will reflect your knowledge and findings within your writing across print and digital platforms.

You will be in regular contact with trade PRs and suppliers, establishing the vital relationships needed to create entirely polished and fresh content for every magazine. As well as this, you will need to develop an in-depth knowledge of the sectors listed above, building key relationships with leading operators and companies in those markets.

As Features Editor, you will actively work with editors, suppliers, operators and the design studio team to think of new and creative ways to present features to keep readers engaged and avoid formulaic and predictable content.

You will ensure the progressive creativity and innovation for the category features across the H2O titles, sharing new ideas and looking at examples from both B2B and B2C worlds for inspiration. Career progression and promotion opportunities will be available to the right person.

You will occasionally be expected to contribute news stories to each magazine’s website and promote these stories using social media.

As well as delivering fresh-thinking articles that meet the content strategy of the editor, you should be willing to regularly attend evening events and industry gatherings. These are predominantly based in London, but you will be encouraged to travel the country when necessary.

The person:

H2O Publishing is looking for a proactive, motivated and enthusiastic individual to become its new Features Editor.

The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative and drive, as well as enjoyment in being part of a friendly team. You should be as comfortable with taking instruction as you would be when working independently, incorporating flawless time/diary management.

The ideal candidate should have experience in writing features for a trade publication within the catering/hospitality industry, as well as holding an NCTJ or relevant journalism qualification.

You should have experience in (but not limited to):

  • Creating features for magazines and websites
  • InDesign and the Adobe Cloud package
  • Microsoft Office
  • Website management
  • Social media operations and approach
  • Flawless social skills when liaising with readers, clients and PRs
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Capability to work alone with instruction from the editor
  • Strong passion for the food and drink industry
  • Proofreading
  • Attending press conferences and events in order to generate content
  • Developing a network of contacts
  • Assisting at trade events

If you’re a keen journalist seeking a fun and challenging role in the fascinating world of food, drink and hospitality, please apply by completing the application form below with your CV and cover letter by Friday 5 April 2019.
