Job Details
Are you a determined journalist with a track-record of delivering agenda-setting investigative journalism?
Schools Week, a leading digital newspaper for the schools sector, is looking for a senior reporter to join our tight-knit team and continue our proud tradition of producing award-winning journalism.
We cover everything schools-related with a focus on education policy. Our core readership is school leaders – so our coverage has to be clever, curious and really dig into the details that keep our loyal audience knowledgeable.
Our reporters have received multiple industry awards, our investigations are regularly cited in Parliament, and our stories are often followed up by the nationals.
This will be a full-time and permanent role based in our Greenwich (London) offices. Salary will be determined depending on experience.
About you
The ideal candidate will be an experienced reporter who has a passion for investigative journalism, with a back catalogue of stories that shows us how you’ve put that into practice.
You will also have a nose for finding your own stories – be it by asking the tough questions, cultivating great contacts, or trawling through documents to find the details others miss.
You will also have excellent writing skills from knowing how to write a slamming intro, to structuring a three-page investigation.
We’re a small team, so you will also be able to switch between working on stories for our weekly edition to pitch in with crisp copy for breaking news stories on our website.
You’ll also be able to demonstrate an ability to engage with readers, and source and promote stories via social media. Experience of turning complex data into stories would also be welcome.
You will have an NCTJ or equivalent qualification, including shorthand and an understanding of media law.
Prior experience covering education would be an advantage, but is in no way essential. At least two years’ work experience as a journalist is required.
