Reporting: Reporting to the Group Editor and Publishing Director

Purpose: To edit, oversee and implement the development and commercial success of Veggie magazine and website. This is a managerial position.

Job description duties and responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Group Editor, as well as the promotions, web, advertising, subscriptions and design teams to oversee all editorial connected to the brand
  • Managing the performance and development of the Deputy Editor and conducting regular catch ups and appraisals
  • Feature writing: researching and producing appropriate, interesting and informative articles, subbing, and sourcing images to ensure features are of an exceptionally high standard
  • Briefing and commissioning experts and freelancers
  • Ensuring that subject matter is presented in a concise, accurate, technically correct and clear manner being mindful of presentation, style and consistency
  • The sourcing and management of content to go live on website and newsletter for monthly web-update. Managing and developing content for other social media channels as required
  • Proofreading and overseeing design amendments at studio and signing pages for press
  • Organising and directing photoshoots, executing ideas for styling and layouts and working with the photographers
  • Planning editorial content for magazine development and leading features meetings
  • Representing the magazine and its brand at key press events and during cross-departmental meetings
  • Generating ideas for supplements, books and campaigns throughout the year and ensuring this workload is managed alongside the magazine's main schedules
  • Ensuring editorial remains within allocated budget and managing invoices for payment
  • Providing advertising department with contacts and leads to ensure all commercial opportunities are maximised, and working with the advertising magazine to create revenue-friendly ideas
  • Liaising with production staff, project designers and other in-house and out-of- house contributors as required in order to facilitate the smooth production of the magazine
  • Attending relevant consumer and trade shows with overnight stays as necessary
  • Managing and overseeing the editorial elements of magazine awards schemes and help to ensure their continued growth and success
  • To support other titles either temporarily or permanently depending on the needs of the business and requirements of the role/title
  • To comply with the Companies Health and Safety and Company Handbook policies, procedures and requirements at all times
