Wanderlust Travel Media is looking for an experienced, organised and hard-working deputy editor to join our team and help take the Wanderlust brand forward.

As number two to editor-in-chief (and co-founder) Lyn Hughes, this is a senior and very hands-on role. With growth across all our channels, and a number of new initiatives planned, this is an exciting time to take on this new position.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Deputy to editor-in-chief across all Wanderlust’s content channels
  • Day to day supervision and mentoring of content teamensuring effective cross-channel working
  • Working with our commercial, digital and managing editors to ensure all content is delivered on time and on budget, and to our quality standards
  • Working closely with the editor-in-chief on content planning and commissioning
  • Oversee editorially-led specials, eg bookazines and supplements
  • Flatplanning of print issues, liaising with other stakeholders
  • Commissioning 360 degree content from agreed freelancers
  • Deputise for editor-in-chief at industry meetings, events, conferences, talks and interviews
  • Development of new projects with the wider team.


Attributes

  • Minimum of 3 years in a senior editorial position on a consumer title
  • Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to manage several projects at once
  • Unflappable under pressure
  • Good understanding of cross-platform approach to content
  • A perfectionist with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Ability to think on feet and react quickly to changing demands and new opportunities
  • Strong experience in editing and commissioning, ideally across channels
  • Understanding of trends in media and travel
