We are looking for a talented news desk journalist to join one of the fastest growing websites in the UK.

The Evening Standard online is breaking audience records every month as it continues to assert itself as one of the leading news brands in the UK. We are now seeking a Number 2 on the news desk to build on the significant progress already made this year.

You will help run the desk and lead the team of talented reporters who deliver a daily package of breaking news and event-driven stories. This role operates as part of a 24/7 shift pattern including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • You will have significant digital content experience
  • A proven track record in delivering exclusive, original and high-quality content, news stories and projects
  • A keen news sense and an appreciation of what type of content works well online and across social media
  • Experience in stepping in for a news editor and taking responsibility for briefing and leading other reporters
  • Experience at dealing with other section editors and news execs on the paper to ensure smooth communication and execution of content packages                                                                         
  • Be adept at producing fast and accurate copy on breaking stories
  • Have an understanding of and practical ability to carry out picture and video editing skills.
  • Have an understanding of the key role data analytics play in story selection and execution and familiarity with the tools which assist this
  • Ensure that all content is of the highest possible standard and adheres to ‘house-brand’ requirements, with an awareness of the readers’ point of view.
  • Ensure legal and taste and decency obligations are adhered to.
