Job Details

The Telegraph is looking for a self-starter who can bring in exclusive political stories and work across print and online platforms to improve our political coverage. Previous experience of working in the lobby is considered an advantage but not a necessity.

Key responsibilities

  • Finding agenda-setting political exclusives.
  • Covering debates and Select Committee hearings in the House of Commons.
  • Building contacts within Parliament.
  • Live-blogging and handling breaking news, predominantly online.
  • Contributing towards building The Telegraph’s digital presence through imaginative use of social media and other digital platforms.
  • Embracing new ways of working and creating editorial content which supports The Telegraph’s subscription strategy.


Specific requirements

  • Journalistic experience for a national newspaper or news agency, ideally within politics.
  • Able to build and maintain contacts within the political sector.
  • Excellent shorthand and knowledge of media law.
  • Interest in digital storytelling.
  • Proven experience in seeking out exclusive stories.
