Job Details

The Telegraph is looking for a political journalist with a proven track record of breaking exclusive stories to join its lobby team as Deputy Political Editor.

You will also be required to anchor the political team whenever the Political Editor is away, working with the news editor and executive team to steer the direction of The Telegraph's political coverage in print and online.

Key responsibilities

  • Developing agenda-setting political exclusives.
  • Maintaining a strong network of top-level political contacts.
  • Creating a clear sense of news agenda and compiles news lists for the News Editor.
  • Playing a key role in building The Telegraph’s digital presence and engagement, through imaginative use of social media and other digital platforms.
  • Embracing new ways of working and creating editorial content which supports The Telegraph’s subscription strategy.
  • Assists with the management and overseeing of the political team including deputising for the Political Editor.

Specific requirements

  • Strong background in developing political content either within a newspaper, newswire, broadcast or digital environment.
  • Background in journalism with some news editing experience.
  • Experience in managing and overseeing a team of journalists.
  • Adept at working in high-pressure environment and producing high quality copy to tight deadlines.
  • Good list of contacts within the political sector.
