Job Details

Digital Spy, the UK’s biggest entertainment website, is looking for a Movies Editor who can be the brand’s chief authority on all things film.

Someone who loves big Hollywood franchises – Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, Fast & Furious – but also has an encyclopaedic knowledge of cult and mainstream film.

Reporting to our Associate Editor, this is a role for an experienced and energetic digital journalist with a track record in the field of movies, excellent news instincts and a contact book stuffed with publicists, industry figures and freelancers of all varieties.

The successful applicant will be both a funny and stylish writer and an innovative and highly organised self-starter full of ideas, with Google Analytics at the top of their bookmark list.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Be the chief authority on movies and all film-related events at Digital Spy.
  • Manage the movies planning process from start to finish.
  • Work with Digital Spy’s news department to help steer the brand’s movie coverage.
  • Source and conduct interviews with an aim to providing exclusive stories.
  • Source, write and ideate movies news stories, features and videos. 
  • Plan and implement SEO wins within the field of movies.
  • Attend and report on relevant movies-related events, from red carpets to junkets.
  • Manage a monthly budget and commission freelancers.
  • Maintain good contacts with movie publicists and the wider industry.
  • Work with Social Media Editor on objectives across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Work with Video Editor on the creation of movies video content.
  • Present video content at junkets and as part of regular Digital Spy video franchises.
  • Analyse, report and respond to real-time and historical audience data.
  • Stay abreast of relevant websites, magazines and social channels to ensure we're one step ahead.
