Yahoo UK, Sub-Editor

Yahoo UK is seeking a talented, dedicated and meticulous sub-editor with a passion for digital journalism. The role is two days a week, 9am-5pm.

Key responsibilities:

• Editing and proof-reading headlines and copy for Yahoo News UK original content
• Liaising with Front Page editors, in-house writers and freelance reporters to ensure our content is engaging and up to date.
• Ensuring original and partner content is enriched with suitable assets to enhance user experience - video, related links, hyperlinks, images and graphics.
• Working quickly in a fast-paced digital newsroom to react to breaking news and change headlines/copy/packages accordingly.
• When necessary, edit packages on the Yahoo UK homepage, and Yahoo UK mobile experience, to build user engagement, ensure content is fresh and headlines enticing and concise.

We are looking for someone who…

• Has at least 5 years experience sub-editing for a national digital publisher.
• Has impeccable spelling, punctuation and grammar, and can produce impactful, emotive and informative copy and headlines.
• Understands the importance of varied online storytelling, particularly breaking news and video.
• Has strong communication and personal skills to work closely with editors and writers.
• Is a passionate follower of the UK news agenda, as well as international events and popular culture.
• Has an understanding of CMS systems, analytics and real-time metrics.
