Job Details

The Independent is recruiting a Deputy Premium Editor to take a leading role in commissioning and editing exclusive content for subscribers.

The job will include regular duty editing of the Daily Edition – our subscriber app – so candidates will need to be brilliant headline writers, have experience presenting and packaging editorial products and be confident being in charge. The successful candidate will also be brimming with ideas for exclusive long-reads, features and analysis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Duty editing of Daily Edition (note: working week likely to be Sunday to Thursday)
  • Commissioning and editing exclusive content for subscribers
  • Deciding on packages of content
  • Working closely with all editorial departments to ensure copy deadlines are met
  • Working with marketing on promotions
  • Feeding into events and other subscriber benefits


Skills and experience:

  • Track record across news and features
  • Experience presenting and packaging editorial products (magazines, newspapers, websites or apps)
  • At least two years of experience working on a comparative title
  • Proven track record of writing headlines and selecting pictures
