The Details

Good Housekeeping is looking for a social media expert - a proactive, self-starter who loves data and how it impacts GH’s content strategy.

The ideal candidate will be a champion in content distribution, tactical in using different platforms to drive engagement and traffic and be able to ensure Good Housekeeping’s personality always shines through.

This role sits within the digital team and reports to the digital editor and will work with editorial, audience development, commercial and marketing teams

Key responsibilities:

  • Devise a social media strategy with the digital editor and increases engagement, referral traffic and followings
  • Continue to evolve and adapt GH’s content strategy in line with changes in algorithms and emerging technology
  • Take responsibility for all social posts across all platforms and monitor wins via analytics - using date to fine tune GH’s social strategy for maximum engagement
  • Support the brand’s food strategy using social insights to help influence recipe video development and food news growth, while also finding innovative ways to showcase GH’s existing recipes across social media
  • Identify trending news and be able to write engaging social stories with must read headlines, contribute to daily and weekly meetings with socially led story ideas
  • Manage community conversation and respond appropriately
  • Edit images and video clips
  • Identify and work with social influencers who fit with the GH brand
  • Represent GH at events and report from them using social media platforms
  • Have an understanding of affiliates and how social contributes to this


About you:

  • Experience of working in a social media role for either an editorial or commercial brand
  • Proven experience of driving strong social engagement and referral traffic
  • You’ll need to be able to assess the landscape and the competition and make recommendations for GH to stay ahead of the game
  • Well versed in social media analytics
  • Excellent understanding of how each social platform works and what is required to raise GH’s profile
  • Able to work fast and respond to breaking news, emerging trends and advise the editorial team accordingly
  • Confident in dealing with sensitive issues and stories on social media
  • Up to date with Facebook algorithm changes and able to respond appropriately
  • BA in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or other relevant subject
  • Strong visual and creative flair with basic Photoshop and video editing skills
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects 
  • A strong ability to assess the landscape and our competitors and make recommendations for GH to stay ahead of the game
  • An excellent planner, able to spot and adapt to changes and understand what makes content exciting and engaging for our audiences
  • A first-class writer – able to write stories for different platforms and create captions for Instagram and Twitter
  • A genuine interest in the GH brand and a passion for food, fashion, beauty, homes and women’s issues is a must
