Express.co.uk is seeking a talented Entertainment Editor to lead the coverage of the latest entertainment and film news from Britain and around the world.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Digital Content, the successful candidate will work to define the site's entertainment news and reviews. He/She will be full of ideas and be ahead of the curve in terms forward planning and generating unique angles for film content in a fast-paced online newsroom.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a trained senior digital journalist or editor looking to take the next step in their career.

Experience on the nationals and in a digital news environment is essential, with a thorough knowledge of film in the UK, Europe and internationally.

Working knowledge of SEO and social media is necessary. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Express digital news operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generation of a daily entertainment news list, focusing on breaking film news and commentary on a day-to-day basis
  • Show an understanding of the website's key content and ensure a steady flow of this content
  • Work closely with the Deputy Director of Digital Content and Associate Editors to ensure extensive and planned coverage of the site's core entertainment topics
  • Managing the entertainment team and work to identify new opportunities to maximise traffic and provide strategy insights so the site's readership continues to grow
  • Source and edit content ensuring that the focus is always on the site's most-searchable stories
  • Write comment and analysis for the website and cover live events and use your PR and news contacts to pull in exclusive interviews and news stories that will deliver a richness of content to the site
  • Push content via Facebook and Twitter in accordance with the digital social media policy
  • Optimise stories in accordance with the digital SEO strategy
  • Stay on top of all developments in the entertainment world and cover those on the site
  • Be able to react quickly to stories
  • Write and edit in accordance with digital house style
  • Constantly monitor social media for viral trends and reaction


The Ideal Candidate:

  • NCTJ qualified journalist with at least six years' experience in journalism with digital editing experience.
  • Proven track record in breaking exclusives, building strong contacts.
  • Outstanding editing, writing and subbing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, multitask, forward plan and have a good eye for content that works best online
  • Experienced digital journalist with familiarity with CMS, Photoshop and Google Analytics
  • Understanding of different types of web traffic, and how to increase organic traffic and a strong news sense
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to nurture and develop writing talent, grammatical and organisational skills
  • Understanding the online market and reader expectations
  • Flexible approach to working hours including weekends and late nights
