The Evening Standard is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Showbiz Editor to lead a team covering the biggest celebrity news and TV stories.

The role is responsible for all digital showbiz news output and works across both print and digital. The post holder will regularly contribute to and feature in print.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with teams from SEO to social as well as the picture and video departments to create eye-catching and up-to-date content as well as growing the sections
  • Be confident in leading a team including pitching, attending conferences and conducting meetings and subbing copy to a high standard
  • Managing and mentoring staff
  • Spotting great stories and interesting angles, from original content to trending stories ahead of competitors
  • Plan all relevant content and coordinate planning with other sections online and in print
  • Being confident in covering live events and securing exclusives
  • Contributing to the Evening Standard’s newspaper as well as online
  • Ability to produce fast, accurate and engaging content and cover breaking news stories in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Generate original ideas and creative thinking to keep us one-step ahead of rivals
  • When appropriate coordinate with colleagues in events and commercial departments


Key requirements:

  • Strong news sense and passion for TV and entertainment, from Doctor Who and Game of Thrones to Kim Kardashian and Holly Willoughby
  • At least two years’ experience reporting on entertainment for a digital media outlet, and able to demonstrate some experience managing people
  • Excellent attention to detail for spelling and grammar as well having a lively and engaging writing style
  • Ability to work fast and deliver content to a high standard under pressure
  • Good contacts and social skills to secure content
  • Being able to conduct interviews, including on camera
  • Pro-active and on board to be flexible with shift patterns including some weekends to cover big TV shows and events
  • Video editing is a bonus
