Mirror Online Sport are looking for an Overnight Sports Editor to join our team here at Lower Thames Street.

You will be working alongside our existing correspondent team and have a particular focus on Sport, including feature writing, opinion and analysis. Within this role you will cover major stories and breaking news in a fast-paced digital environment.

We are Reach because it's what we do.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country.

We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, OK! & New! Magazines and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 620 million newspapers, with 5.8 million readers of one of our brands each month. Our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with 8.1 billion page views per year.

We average 21.5 million mobile visitors - that's 60% of the entire mobile market. Each month we attract over 32 million unique visitors. That's more than our competitors. You will help us further increase our digital audience into 2019.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Suggesting/sourcing/producing Sport stories for the mirror.co.uk and Reach PLC national titles across print
  • Take direction from the Head of Digital Sport and Sports Editor in producing fan-first content and distribution to maximise valuable audiences
  • Lead the Mirror's overnight Sport operation throughout the week and engage with the main Mirror Online overnight team to work on breaking news and stories tailor made for the site
  • Have a proactive approach to content production and promotion
  • Work across video and social media platforms to deliver content
  • Ability to produce stories in a way that are optimised for our online audience
  • Create and maintain contacts to source stories, break exclusives, interviews and features on topics on and off the pitch
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team over ways to improve and innovate the site's output
  • Use social media to engage with and build our audiences
  • Assist with long-term planning and produce content ahead of major events
  • Use analytics and data intelligence to guide your own content production

The Ideal Candidate

You could be a recent graduate with some great experience and/or be an 'old-hand' at sports journalism.

One of the most important things to us is that you possess a NCTJ or BJTC qualification and have a minimum of a year's experience in a digital sport environment.

You will have a good grasp of media law. Good understanding of digital publishing including experience of using web publishing systems, understanding of SEO, digital audience behaviour and analytics.

Being an overnight sports role, there are a variety of late evening and weekend shifts encompassed in the role. Additional languages and a knowledge of new and emerging platforms would be a bonus.

Most importantly, you will be driven by sport with a keen interest in football. We may consider remote working for the right candidate.
