WANTED: Features Assistant & Sub-Editor Country & Town House magazine

A fantastic opportunity for a brilliant, enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills, at least six months’ editorial experience on a magazine (proficient in InDesign, production processes etc), an eagle eye for detail; brimming with ideas; forward-thinking; organised; a talented writer, who wouldn’t allow a cliché in their copy and would spot a rogue comma from 100 paces; a team player; an ambassador for the business and the editor’s right hand person.

START DATE: By 1 September 2019

Your application will be acknowledged. If successful, you will be notified sometime after 4 August to organise a first-round interview. You will be required to do a writing and short subbing test.

  • Writing and sub-editing experience

  • Experience using InDesign and Photoshop desired

  • Generally keen to get stuck in, even if it’s not your area of responsibility
  • Unflappable under tight deadlines


RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Supporting and assisting the editor in the management, writing and editing of all C&TH titles and supplements
     
  • Sub-editing:
    • Sub-editing some of the monthly magazine pages – fact checking prices, style, captions, headline and standfirst writing, proofing, grammar etc
       
  • Writing:
    • Writing monthly pages across lifestyle that are engaging, informative and ahead of the curve
    • Conducting monthly interviews with designers, chefs and celebrities that are relevant to the title and of the moment
    • Pitching features to the editor and writing as required
    • Writing advertorials as required
    • Filing copy and images
       
  • Picture research:
    • For all the pages you write, and as required for other features, supplements and projects
  • Networking:
    • Developing good relationships with PRs across the luxury lifestyle industry
    • Developing strong relationships with C&TH’s contributors
    • Keeping abreast of news and feeding back interesting information to the editor and online team
    • Attending relevant events to represent C&TH
    • Press trips
  • Project management:
    • We currently produce six annual supplements, on which you would be required to help the editor manage the projects, as well as some sub-editing and writing
