Job purpose:

The Independent is looking for a business correspondent with experience of delivering breaking news stories, in-depth analysis and original features.

You will become a key member of the team, reporting on general business and economics news from the UK and US.

Key responsibilities:

  • Cover breaking business stories
  • Produce explainers, analyses and features
  • Proactively search for stories to give our coverage a distinctive edge
  • Maintain and develop contacts with companies, analysts, think tanks and other relevant organisations


Skills and experience:

  • At least two years’ experience in a business or economics reporting role in a fast-paced newsroom
  • A strong news sense and an understanding of companies and business trends, as well as the broader economy
  • Proven ability to produce clean copy under tight deadline pressure
  • A proven understanding of digital journalism and a desire to deepen your knowledge
  • A team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues across departments
