Job Details

Dow Jones Newswires seeks a reporter to cover foreign exchange markets in real time in the Europe/Middle East/Africa region.

The main focus of the role is to track moves across major currency pairs and emerging market currencies for professional customers through short, analytical items called Market Talk. Typically around 100 words or fewer, Market Talk provides the valuable insights and trading signals valued by our professional audience globally.

The job also provides opportunities to write longer, thematic pieces, conduct interviews with market players and attend industry conferences.

The Market Talk team provides smart, real-time coverage valued across the Dow Jones Newswires/Wall Street Journal newsroom.

Successful applicants will demonstrate a sound knowledge of financial markets, preferably with an emphasis on foreign exchange, have a track record of making good contacts and want to be part of a fast-paced global news operation.

The position is based at our regional newsroom hub in The News Building in London.

Journalistic Skills:

  • Exercises exceptional news judgment to identify market moves and write quickly and accurately in a fast-paced publishing environment
  • Draws on a depth of financial knowledge to quickly assess and prioritize market coverage Upholds Dow Jones standards and ethics.
  • Recognizes and responds to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations.
  • Helps connect the content with the audience.
  • Collaborates with reporters and editors from other groups, including WSJ colleagues and those in other bureaus and regions.
  • Communicates precisely, with compassion.
  • Proactive rather than reactive.
