Who we are

NS Media Group is a global organisation specialising in publishing and intelligence, with offices in 18 countries and 1,200 employees worldwide.

Applying the authority of our 75 world-leading B2B magazines and websites, NSMG educates, informs and influences businesses and communities across the globe.

We disseminate the knowledge and pioneering insight from our industry-leading analysts and editors across a diverse and growing readership in industries such as energy, banking, insurance, packaging and medical devices.

With a portfolio that includes print, digital, mobile, social and event channels, our content expertise – combined with a data-driven approach – ensures that our international audience of over 41 million is highly engaged and informed.

Recently rebranded from Compelo to NSMG in order to align ourselves closer to the New Statesman brand within our wider stable, our publications include Computer Business Review, Press Gazette, Blueprint and NS Business.

What is NS Medical Devices?

NS Medical Devices sits within the NS Business portfolio of business-to-business (B2B) websites. Other titles include NS Energy, NS Banking, NS Insurance and NS Packaging, with more to be launched soon.

The website carries news on deals, contracts and new products, as well as deeper insights and analysis into industry trends, disruptors and personalities.

What’s the job?

The successful candidate will write daily articles under the guidance of the group managing editor and digital strategist to create unique news and business content that will grow traffic to the website.

They will be expected to build up a substantial contacts book by attending industry events and conferences, meeting key people and building relationships with PRs.

This is an ideal role for someone who has recently graduated with a journalism degree – or taken an industry course such as an NCTJ – who wants to learn the basics of the job and eventually become an expert in a particular topic.

Prior knowledge of the medical devices industry would be a bonus but not expected as training will be provided, as well as time to get to know the sector.

But an enthusiasm for the job is a must, as is the ability to find key news lines that help to bring a story to life, a willingness to pick up the phone and speak to people, and a pride in your own work that means copy will be clean.

The position is part of a busy editorial team, featuring a number of other young journalists, based in central London.

Key responsibilities:

  • Creating, uploading and optimising content across the NS Medical Devices website
  • Following the lifespan of an article by using social media streams to share stories and engage with readers
  • Contribute ideas for news stories, short features and in-depth analytical features
  • Finding a unique angle or way of covering a particular story if required, such as when it has already been widely covered
  • Building relationships with PRs, analysts and industry experts
  • Attending industry events and conferences to gather news, meet contacts and generate ideas for future features
  • Consistently achieve the highest editorial standards according to house style, grammar/spelling and SEO guidelines

Experience / skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (must) and a journalism qualification, such as an NCTJ or equivalent (preferred)
  • Some experience of working in a newsroom, with a portfolio of published articles
  • Some experience in writing about business topics
  • Ability to write shorthand (preferred)
  • Relevant digital experience using a CMS and SEO
