Nursing Times, Senior Reporter

Nursing Times is looking for a talented and ambitious reporter to write news stories and feature articles for its award-winning magazine and website.

Nursing Times, the UK's leading nursing title, has been supporting nurses for over 100 years and has a reputation for dynamic news content and successful campaigns.

It comprises a monthly print magazine and the largest nursing website outside of the US. The brand is also supported by a portfolio of events.

In 2019, Nursing Times was named Special Interest Magazine of the Year and Team of the Year at the Periodical Press Association Awards (PPAs) – the Oscars of the media industry.

Nursing Times is based in Old Street, London, and owned by EMAP, a business with a portfolio of market-leading brands across a wide range of platforms and products.

Key Accountabilities:

The full-time role will require the holder to generate and write news content on a broad range of topics of interest to nurses and midwives. This could be political, clinical or general interest and is likely to cover topics like education, regulation and workforce.

The role is centred on contributing daily stories for the Nursing Times website and monthly articles for the print issue.

This will range from succinctly summarising the key points of a major report, interpreting a scientific paper or seeing through to conclusion a major investigation. The successful candidate will be part of a news team of three.

Experience:

You will be a self-starter with a track record of generating exclusive off-diary stories, a strong team player and be used to working under pressure.

You will be hungry for exclusives and keen to win awards, and someone who is able to write accurately and engagingly to tight deadlines.

You will be as comfortable interviewing grassroots nurses on how they are improving patient care as you will be healthcare leaders on the latest policy. Experience of data journalism and use of social media will be advantageous. Experience of writing about the health and care sector or public sector would also be advantageous but not essential. You will have at least 12 months’ experience in journalism.
