Job Details

A rare vacancy has arisen on the racing desk of the Reach PLC national titles, which includes the Daily Mirror, Daily Star and Daily Express.

We are looking for a Multimedia Racing Journalist to join our team to work across the national print titles and associated websites. We particularly want someone who can take a lead to improve and drive our online content.

We produce more than 65 racing pages a week in print including the award-winning Daily Mirror Saturday racing pullout.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious journalist. A professional qualification (NCTJ or equivalent) is preferred and the role will be based in London or Preston.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce original, accurate and compelling online and print content.
  • Sub editing and proofreading pages in InDesign.
  • Working closely with the digital sports and social media teams to ensure content is shared and distributed effectively.
  • Ensure SEO best practice is followed to drive traffic to the racing sections.
  • Complete all tasks accurately within deadline and in line with budget requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

An encyclopaedic knowledge of horse racing is a must: as is a passion for digital media.

A flair for writing and impeccable levels of accuracy are other fundamentals: you must know it's Gordon Elliott, not Elliot, and that it's Silvestre de Sousa and not Sylvester.

The role will be varied and include tipping, writing, subbing, proofing, podcasts… in fact, the job will be what YOU make it.
