The Role:

We need a visionary brand leader who can execute and deliver a dynamic editorial and commercial strategy across magazine, newspaper, website and social media.

They will be an executive figurehead for Fabulous and a powerful voice across the Sun newsroom, leading a highly-motivated team, liaising with advertisers and creating an exciting new audience engagement across many different platforms.

Day to day you will:

  • Create, lead and champion the entire brand strategy, becoming the ‘face’ of Fabulous.
  • Responsible for the full 360 execution of the Fabulous vision and brand - including magazine, digital, social, daily paper, campaigns, events, community and video working with key internal platform specialists.
  • Identify and craft the tone and identity of the overarching brand and the form this takes on all platforms.
  • Drive change and transformation of the department and establish new operating model to ensure successful delivery of key business outcomes.
  • Manage budget and ensure resources and costs are managed efficiently to meet financial targets.
  • Establish and agree cross-divisional KPIs with team for delivery of content on all brand products.
  • Establish and agree cross-divisional KPIs with business owners - e.g. Editor-in-Chief, Sun on Sunday Editor, Digital Editor - and deliver against them e.g. to grow audience reach and engagement.  
  • Work with key stakeholders to continue evolving the team and its structure to develop best in class content across all platforms, finding opportunities for new growth areas and efficiencies, identifying cost-saving areas and efficiencies.
  • Attend daily conferences with the Editor-in-Chief, representing Fabulous at a senior level. 
  • Create and lead a new video strategy, devising franchises which incorporate needs of editorial and commercial with multi-channel executions.
  • Lead weekly steering meetings - alongside commercial and marketing - to ensure all heads are collaborating and united in their goals.
  • Identify areas of editorial growth through content innovation, responding to the needs of editorial and commercial.
  • Create a template for a year-long editorial calendar, ensuring that every relevant team uses it.
  • Work to develop audience strategy - including social, SEO and other distribution channels -  adapting to new platforms and opportunities for revenue and audience growth.
  • Work with commercial and marketing teams to create new Fabulous commercial deck and take on a roadshow to advertisers to win new 360 deals and launch partners for video franchises.
  • Engage with insight and analytics teams to ensure all reporting needs are met.
  • Work with commercial to develop eCommerce opportunities. 


What we are looking for:

  • Proven success in a multi-platform leadership role driving innovation and revenue within lifestyle publishing, Experience of both digital and print publishing - including video.
  • Strong understanding of consumer trends and behaviours and proven track record in driving customer engagement.
  • Skilled at engaging and managing multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Fantastic communication and influencing skills. 
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing change and transformation programmes.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a high-performing team.
  • Proven creativity in devising and launching new editorial initiatives and franchises.
  • Experience of working effectively with commercial and marketing teams to achieve mutual goals.
  • Financial literacy and experience in being a primary budget holder.
