Job Details
Immediate need for a Media Officer to join this Big Lottery funded charity. The contract is to run for the next 3 / 4 months with a potential to go permanent. It is a chance to make a real difference and to create lasting change in society. You would join a small, focused team that is compassionate, driven and committed to their work and carry out hands on media relations work, provide editorial and creative support and produce content.
The Role:
- Working closely with programmes and the communications team to provide an integrated communications service
- sell in news stories, comment and feature material to media and advise teams on news value of content
- Manage incoming media enquiries, draft statements and responses as required
- Carry out proactive and reactive media work
- Carry out effective crisis communications work as necessary
- Build and maintain media relationships setting up briefings and meetings
- Ensure media training is in place, and spokespeople are briefed
- Media monitoring
- Support thought leadership and issues campaigns
- Support external engagement programme and corporate branding projects
Skills and Experience required:
- Background in working within communications team of a not for profit or charitable organisation would be useful
- At least two years’ experience of working as a press / media relations officer
- Organisational skills, ability to juggle multiple projects
- Strong on time management and prioritising and able to work to tight deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to absorb often long and complex policy issues quickly and turn them into compelling clear content
- Ability to take initiative and be creative in solving problems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team
