The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced, enterprising reporter to cover politics and policy in China.

The job is based in Beijing and is responsible for our coverage of the country's leadership and the Communist Party - subjects that are as important as they are difficult to penetrate.

There could not be a more important time to cover this beat. We will expect the successful candidate to tell the story of Xi Jinping as he attempts to raise China's global stature and influence, keep abreast of the leadership's inner circle and the CCP's top brass, report on their top political and economic priorities and assess their accomplishments, keep tabs on changes in China's military, be attuned to important shifts in political rhetoric, and communicate closely with the diplomatic community to get a sense of how China is relating to its allies and rivals.

The successful candidate will have strong reporting skills, a highly analytical mind and fluent Mandarin.

She or he will also have to be good team player able to work productively with our close-knit team in Beijing and colleagues around the globe.
