Reporter - Shale, The Wall Street Journal - TX

Employer
Dow Jones
Location
Houston
Salary
$DoE
Closing date
1 Dec 2019

Job Details

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter to cover the oil and gas business, with an emphasis on the American shale boom.

Fracking has transformed the U.S. into the world's leading oil producer, but many of the companies behind the boom are struggling to make money.

We are looking for an enterprising reporter capable of digging into the struggling economics of these companies, and telling the tales of the colorful personalities trying to right them.

You will also participate in coverage of energy in the 2020 presidential campaign, as some candidates propose to ban fracking, and assist as needed with other hot energy topics, such as the rise of wind and solar energy.

Prior experience covering energy is useful but not required. Rather, you should have a proven ability to develop sources, master complex topics and write clearly and authoritatively.

We are also looking for someone eager to pursue myriad forms of storytelling. The beat also requires close cooperation with reporters in London, New York, Washington and elsewhere around the world. Several years of reporting experience required.

The position is based in Houston, America's energy capital and fourth-largest city.

You will report to Miguel Bustillo, U.S. Energy Editor.
