Role Purpose

Are you an experienced, talented and creative media relations expert? Are you a dab-hand story-teller with brilliant contacts throughout the media in Wales and further afield? Then we’ve got the job for you!

As NRW’s media relations specialists, you'll be responsible for finding engaging ways to tell NRW’s story through the media, helping to build wider public understanding of our work, and explaining what we are doing to champion the environment in Wales. 

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and energetic communications professional who will be responsible for leading and overseeing our media strategy, and a key member of our communications team.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Substantial media-relations experience, with a broad range of media contacts and established relationships with national broadcasters and broadsheets as well as more local or trade journalists  
  2. Extensive experience of working in a integrated communications team with a broad remit of work and key skills in campaign, work planning and prioritisation. 
  3. Proven track record of operating with confidence and credibility at the highest levels both within an organisation and with other stakeholders.
  4. Pragmatic and forward thinking with an ability to innovate to develop solutions to complex communications needs
  5. High levels of political awareness and substantial experience of operating in politically sensitive environments and the ability to get traction for NRW’s agenda through the media
  6. Exercises sound judgement in particular regarding protecting reputation and during crisis and incidents.
  7. Member of relevant professional body and visible commitment to your own CPD.

Natural Resources Wales is the largest Welsh Government Sponsored Body - employing 1,900 staff across Wales with a budget of £180 million.
